“I want future generations to have what I had, and planned giving felt simple. It was a way to make sure what I'm building now can have a bigger impact in the future." – Caro Pinto, ‘00
For Caro Pinto, a 2000 alum, BYSO was about more than music from the very beginning–it was about discovering a bigger world.
Growing up near Worcester, Caro found a different kind of independence and connection by joining BYSO. Traveling to rehearsals and performances meant meeting peers from different towns, backgrounds, and schools. Music became a common language, allowing her to form new friendships and connections with other motivated and creative young people. Plus, being surrounded by adults who took Caro seriously, helped affirm her sense of agency and self-worth.
“I wasn’t the most talented musician, but I worked hard. I gained so much from these friendships, and remember being so inspired by these other students. BYSO was such an important place for me when I was in high school, a time when kids are contending with difficult things and exploring who they are, and it was essential for me to have this group of peers beyond my high school.”
Years later, the impact of BYSO remains present, and came to mind when Caro thought about how she could have an impact through planned giving.
“I want future generations to have what I had, and planned giving felt simple. It was a way to make sure what I’m building now can have a bigger impact in the future.”
Caro’s planned gift, and joining of the Rabin Society, is both a thank you and a promise: gratitude for the generations who built BYSO before them, and hope for the young musicians still to come. BYSO is rooted in a historic past and rising to a bright future, including with the established BYSO Youth Center for Music, and there has perhaps never been a better time to make this personal choice and commitment for a cause you care about.
Through a planned gift–such as a bequest, DAF, retirement plan, or life insurance policy–you can join Caro and other members of the Rabin Society in building a future you believe in by supporting BYSO for years to come.
