BYSO Summer ChamberFest / at the BYSO Youth Center for Music

Program Description
BYSO is launching a summer chamber music program open to BYSO and non-BYSO students! The goal of BYSO Summer ChamberFest is to provide an intensive chamber music experience for intermediate and advanced string and piano students from ages 8-18. Classes will take place at BYSO’s new Youth Center for Music in the heart of the Boston music scene. In addition to daily chamber music coachings, students will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of music enrichment classes and electives including musicianship, theory, chorus, improvisation, drumming/rhythm, Yoga and Alexander Technique.
The recommended minimum level for acceptance is approximately Suzuki Book 4 for violins and Book 3 for violas, cellos and double bass, and for pianists, ABRSM level 4, or Suzuki Book 4 (Mozart Sonatina or Beethoven Sonata). Younger students may be accepted if they meet the minimum technical requirements.

Auditions
In order to create the best possible groups based on ages and levels, auditions are required.
- Two scales of student’s choice. 3 octaves recommended
- Two contrasting pieces or movements (5-8 minutes recommended)
- Sight reading
Auditions held April 5, 6, & 7 at the Youth Center for Music (times TBD)
Audition results sent on or before April 26
Registration: BYSO Students
All current BYSO students are automatically accepted into the program.
BYSO students are guaranteed a spot if they register by March 31st. Thereafter, participation will be on a space available basis.

Audition applications due by March 31st to schedule an audition.
