I love how ICP is a very tight-knit family and no matter what BYSO orchestra we're placed in, we always say hi to each other when we see one another because we all have something in common that not many have, and that's being a part of ICP.
Cyan, 18, Cello
What I like best about ICP is that you are surrounded by people who become a lot like your second family. You make new friends and you learn to challenge each other and motivate each other especially when learning a new piece.
Samantha, 15, Double Bass
What I like most about ICP is the family aspect of it. I love how we are so close as a community and enjoy each other’s company. Most importantly, we push each other to be the best musicians that we can be.
Elie, 16, Cello
I like the way the teachers work with me and the other students to teach music. I also like the fact that there are so many kids to make friends with. The teachers are very nice.
Giselle, 7, Double Bass
What I love about ICP is that it's a community that feels family. I love being able to show up every Sunday to play music and talk with friends like I've known them my whole life. It's such a great community and I love playing music!
William, 14, Bass
The thing that I like best about ICP is that it pushes you to go farther than I would have every gone before.
Nearah, 11, Bassoon
My favorite ICP memory is when we got to watch the ICP graduation concerts because as a younger violinist, I thought it was so cool seeing what I could potentially sound like in 8 years.
Emma, 16, Violin
I realize that practicing a lot will help me to become the best that I can be. Practicing every day helps me to drill my pieces until it is hardwired in my brain. I try to use this for school too. I study hard for tests until I'm ready to take the test. It's a lot like learning new music.
Sadie, 13, Cello
Ever since I started I found out that if I put my mind to something, (practice a lot!), I can accomplish, love, and enjoy the outcome-me playing my amazing Bass!
Maereg, 9, Double Bass
My favorite ICP memory is when I got my first cello. It was just the right size for me and I felt comfortable with it right away. Now that I'm bigger, I've gotten a larger cello. And, my first cello has been passed to another musician. I hope having it has been as magical for them as it was for me.
Adanna, 8, Cello
Without ICP I would not be the man I am today. I have been a member of ICP since I was just five years old, and it has become like a second home for me.
Benjamin, 18, Violin
On the first day of bass class, we walked in and stood by the basses in front of us. Mine was last. But when we unpacked them, they were absolutely beautiful. Every time I look back on that day, I smile, happy that I got picked for bass because I love it!
Meeka, 11, Double Bass
I remember how I used to look up to the "big kids" when I had just started learning violin. Sometimes they would help out during classes, and give private lessons. Now that I'm considered a "big kid", I am surprised by how much I see myself in some of the younger students and by how much ICP has taught me – not only in music but also in making friendships and working together.
Brianna, 16, Violin
What ICP has brought to my life is choice. The choice to make my whole family proud with my music and stand out above the crowd, or to be a little kid like the rest of everyone. My uncle said that "you can't make a name for yourself if you do the same routine that everyone else does".
Andixon, 13, Trombone
ICP gives opportunities for kids to be musical. ICP has allowed me to express my love for music. Being able to play difficult parts in my school orchestra has been fun.
Kamen, 12, Viola
ICP gives lots of meaning to my life. I know that it will give me many opportunities towards my future. I got the chance to meet one of my best friends at ICP. And I am proud to tell other people that I play music for the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras because of its reputation. My favorite ICP memory was in my early days and my picture was selected to be on a ICP flyer. I was so happy to be recognized.
Israel, 13, Viola
ICP brought lots of opportunities to me. For example, it helped me in math. It also makes me feel important and special, for someone to listen to and appreciate what I play. It does take commitment but it is so worth it. Being with amazing friends and teachers makes it so much better.
Aiyanah, 11, Double Bass
Once after a concert at Symphony Hall, I was walking with my mom to go home and a little kid and her dad came up and told me how much they loved the concert. It surprised me, and I felt proud.
Kali, 16, Viola
My favorite ICP memory is performing for the first time ever. I was excited and scared at the same time but in the end I was happy that I did it.I love to play new songs. It makes me feel good to learn new music
Cameron, 7, Cello
One of my favorite ICP memory is playing at the nursing home in Mattapan. Their faces light up when they see us. Knowing that we bring so much joy to them in such a short period of time is heart warming.
Aydan, 15, Cello
My favorite ICP memory is getting chosen for the program. I couldn't believe it, and I still remember the feeling, even though I was only 5.
Moussa, 13, Viola
ICP has changed our family life. Music becomes part of our daily life. I really liked the gradation concert. As a parent, it is a very powerful memory to see the first year ICP students and ICP graduated students playing in the concert. It helps me to envision my children's musical development in next ten years.
Lukas, 10, Viola
