/ Chamber Music Program Updates

The BYSO Chamber Music Program has gotten off to an exciting start this year!  With a record number of participants, groups began rehearsals and coachings on September 30th.  This year, we chose 3 honors ensembles from amongst our BYS groups. These groups receive full-scholarship for the year, and have the chance to play around the city for various events, concerts and showcases, and lately have been busy performing for some of our BYSO auction winners and their guests, having won the coveted "evening of BYSO chamber music" at last year's Gala!  It is a great opportunity to hear the talented members of our orchestras in a smaller setting, and to get to hear what life is like as an uber talented BYSO kid!

We are thrilled to have been asked to have a BYSO Chamber Music group perform on this year's season-opening concert of the Concord Chamber Music Society.  On Sunday, November 18th, the Ravel Honors Quartet will be performing and taking part in an on-stage round-table discussion with CCMS director and Boston Symphony Orchestra violinist, Wendy Putnam and Musicologist, Steven Ledbetter.  What a lucky audience!

Speaking of concerts, we are beyond grateful to several Boston-area Chamber Music Series for offering free and discounted tickets to BYSO Chamber Music participants and their families to their concert offerings this season! Thank you: Radius Ensemble, Boston Chamber Music Society, Winsor Music, and Concord Chamber Music Society.  What an incredible opportunity for our BYSO members to hear world-class performers on a regular basis!

Our2018-2019 BYSO Solo and Chamber Music Master Class Series will begin on Sunday,November 18th with Boston Symphony Cellist, Owen Young.  Performers arechosen based on their participation in BYSO Chamber Music Program, and for theNovember class, will include cellists Kaede Ishidate and Caroline Bragg, andthe Debussy Honors Quartet. Our other guest artists for this year are violistAmadi Azikiwe, and violinists Irina Muresanu and Sarah Whitney (who is also a(G)BYSO alum!).  These master classes are free and open to thepublic!  All are on Sundays from 10-12 on 11/18, 12/9, 2/17, and 4/14 andare held in the BU Concert Hall.
