DEADLINE EXTENDED! The Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras (BYSO) is pleased to announce that
we will be recruiting a NEW class of Intensive Community Program (ICP) Winds students in WINTER 2017!
The Intensive Community Program (ICP), directed by Nicole Cariglia is a rigorous instrumental training program within the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras (BYSO) that brings quality classical music instruction to students from communities traditionally underrepresented in the classical music field by providing lessons, instruments, and need-based financial aid. After two to three years of rigorous study, ICP students are typically prepared to audition into one of the BYSO's orchestras and are eventually expected to progress into the Boston Youth Symphony, the BYSO's premier ensemble.
Since its inception, ICP has focused on the training of students on string instruments.
Beginning in January 2017, ICP will expand to also include several orchestral woodwind and brass instruments.
Under the continued direction of Nicole Cariglia, the winds expansion of ICP will be led by BYSO conductor and winds specialist, Janet Underhill. ICP’s next string recruitment will take place in September, 2017
At the BYSO, we believe that the elements of music can be learned and enjoyed by anyone, and this recruitment program was developed to provide an energetic, hands-on introduction to several orchestral woodwind and brass instruments. Once accepted into the program, all students will have the opportunity to experience the fun of making music together. Through discipline and creativity, individuality and teamwork, students will accomplish personal and group goals. The results are young people who develop high aspirations and love to work hard towards excellence.
Students in grades 2-5 (in the 2016-17 schoolyear) who are interested in experiencing classical music may apply. Interested families must submit an application form
(online or paper) and a $5 application fee for each interested student.
Spaces are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Extended Deadline:
Applications must be received by January 27, 2017. In January/February 2017, we will interview up to 60 children and families. 16 children will be selected to join our Winter 2017 Music Workshop Series. In March 2017, 10 of those children will advance into the program.
