1971
Liselyn Adams, Flute
It is a blast to come here and remember all these names and hear what you're up to. I have been in Canada since 1979, playing and teaching at Concordia University in Montreal. I studied baroque flute in Holland in 1978-79, played mainly early music for a few years, but now have been solidly back in the present since 1990. I play mostly with the Blue Rider Ensemble, which is at least as fun as GBYSO was all those years ago. I wish my daughter (cello) could be in the Boston area just for this orchestra, and my son is developing into a heck of a percussionist. So greetings to you all -- cheers!

James Bergin, Viola

Edward Bordeleau, Bass

Jack Cousin,  Bass
Marina del Rey, California
We toured San Moritz, Switzerland, and Israel. In San Moritz, some of us played in an international youth symphony under Leopold Stokowsky. My parents used to drive me the 100 miles from Springfield, Massachusetts, for the rehearsal and then a lesson. I then went to New England Conservatory and in 1974 I won an audition for the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta. When I have some free time I scuba dive, or wind surf.

Geoff Hall, Percussion

RoseAnn Markow Lester, Violin
I've lived in MD since coming here for school, and teach violin and viola at Hood College in Frederick, MD. I stay active as a solo and chamber music performer in the Balto/Wash area as well. I am married to a fabulous pianist and am mother of a lyric coloratura soprano and a double bassist. GBYSO was what I lived for as a teenager. It was my entire social world! Musically, it helped me grow and was tremendously inspiring. Best memories- Switzerland and Israel!

Susan Smith Livingston, Bassoon

Carol (Capodanno) McCabe,  Flute
Wellesley, Massachusetts
I am still working as a musician, though not performing nearly as much as I used to since getting married in 1990. I play principal flute in the Wellesley and Worcester Symphony orchestras. I teach flute privately and in the Wellesley public schools, with about forty students each week. My favorite GBYSO memories are of the feeling of awe playing in Symphony Hall for the first time, and of our trip to Israel in 1970.  These moments helped solidify my love for orchestral music.

Mark Savage, Viola
I attended the Hartt College of Music for a Bachelors Degree in Perfromance, then the Manhattan School of Music for a Master Degree in Perfromance. Fortunately, I found work in Little Rock, AR and Memphis, TN, playing in the orchestras, and then freelancing in the region. Eventually, I won the Principal Viola position in Little Rock, and helped found the Arkansas Symphony String Quartet, working full time as a player. In 1989, I switched over to Management, becoming the Operations Manager for the Memphis Symphony until 1995, then the Operations Manager for the Indianapolis Symphony. I now hold the position of managing Director of the Sewanee (TN) Summer Music Festival, having arrived here in Sewanee in January of 2004. I often remember the great performances, and fine young artists that I had the great fortune to be a part of traveling from Worcester to Boston every weekend. Of course, the Israel Tour of 1970 was a career highlight that has yet to dim in my memory. Please say hello if you get a chance.
