Sofia Lazo Herrera

1966
David Archibald, Clarinet, Alumni Advisor
Lexington, Massachusetts
I'm currently a human resources director, a job that calls for almost no musical talent. My non-work activities are mostly musical: as assistant conductor for the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, conductor of a Lexington-based horn ensemble and music arranger for the WSO, Boston Civic and some smaller groups.

Judy Norsigian, Cello
Newton, Massachusetts
I remember the trips to the White House and Carnegie Hall as high points. A few of us in the eighth grade were especially fascinated with the budding romances of older orchestra members and peeked above the seats in the bus to see "what was going on" up front. I am now Executive Director of Our Bodies Ourselves, a women's health education and advocacy organization that works globally.

Alan L. Peterson, Cello
Nice to see GBYSO is alive and well. I have many fond memories with music and friends. After the USN for 5 years, I landed here in Sunapee, NH, and taught general music K-12 for 30 years. I teach privately now as well as teaching sailing and windsurfing, drive bus part-time, and am one of the captains on the 2 Lake Sunapee cruise boats. Come join me sometime, especially the summer!

Nathan Zassman, Trombone
After leaving the GBYSO  I studied at the Manhattan School of Music (B.Mus 1970) and continued studies in Chicago with Arnold Jacobs.   In 1974 I joined the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra as 2nd trombonist  a position I held until 1994.  Too restless for a single career  while I was in the WSO  I had a career as a computer business owner and professional photographer.   In 1991 I founded Aviva Natural Health Solutions. Our slogan "Everything For Healthy Living" describes our mission statement well. Aviva has a large Winnipeg retail location and one of Canada's most successful online health products companies.  I rarely play these days  but I do miss performing  and one day when I retire  I hope to have time to play again.  I remember my years with GYBSO fondly  and still remember many of the pieces we performed  including the Dvorak Carnival Overture and Lt. Kije.
