1961
Robert M. Axtell, Trumpet
Atlanta, Georgia
I still think about the GBYSO and the fun we had.. I went on from GBYSO to graduate from University of Massachusetts, North Dartmouth, and then worked for the Dupont Co. for 37 years. We lived in Wilmington, Delaware, Yardley, Pennsylvania, and now Atlanta, Georgia. I retired six months ago as CEO of Dupont Flooring Systems. Currently I am in two concert bands, playing tennis, running, traveling and, much to my wife's dismay, smoking a cigar a day.

Marvin Rabin taught us about life and music. At Carnegie Hall, several of us were climbing around the "golden horseshoe".  Climbing around the last obstacle, I tripped and snapped the neck of my fiddle.  Marvin shook his head, took my fiddle, gave me his and got my fiddle fixed. The Carnegie stage manager urged us to get moving. Judy Garland needed to rehearse. Marvin looked at him and said, "you take care of Judy Garland, I'll take care of my musicians".

Adrian Hoffman, Trombone

Beverley Bailey Sapochetti, Violin

Daniel Sapochetti, Trumpet
Marcellus, New York
We are still here in the Syracuse area. Beverley and I were among GBYSO's first members from 1958 through 1961. Marvin Rabin was our conductor -- what a patient and kind man. The Syracuse Symphony has been my home for 32 years. How lucky am I? Married for 38 years to someone who understands what music means to me. Beverley played in a local symphony until recently. Music brought us together and we're still together!

David A. SchwartzTrombone
Belmont, Massachusetts
Retired from a career as a bond investment analyst and portfolio manager, I am also a full time amateur trombonist, playing about eight nights a week in community symphonies, swing bands, trombone ensembles, a brass ensemble, a klezmer band, and a terrific hofbrau band.  I began publishing play-along music books for trombonists, Bordogni Vocalises, but with Bordogni's own piano accompaniments, synthesized on CD's. Cheryl and I have two boys, ages 22 and 19.

Stephen Custer, Cello
I am in my 34th year as a cellist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic.  I am happily married with two grown children who are both involved in music.  I enjoy many of the activities that I enjoyed while growing up in New England, such as sailing, skiing, and bicycling.  Teaching cello, on the university and less advanced levels, is important in my life.

Marjorie (Connolly) Powers, Bass
