General Details

Rehearsal Times

Rehearsals take place every Sunday, September through June. (Specific orchestras' schedules vary).

Fees and Tuition for 2010-11:

Season tuition for BYS, Rep, JRO and YPSO (includes $200 registration fee): $925
Preparatory Winds tuition (includes $200 registration fee): $650
Junior Repertory Orchestra Camp: $875
Repertory Orchestra Camp: $1025
Boston Youth Symphony Camp: $1525
Boston Youth Symphony Tour (BYS tours internationally every other season): Cost varies.
Chamber Music Program: $350 (optional, per semester)
Composition Class: $350 (optional, per semester)

Financial Aid

Need-based financial aid is available for season tuition, camp tuition and tour fees.  Once accepted into BYSO's program, families may apply for financial aid.

Directions

From the North

  1. Take I-93 or Route 1 South to Boston. Exit onto Storrow Drive.
  2. Continue on Storrow Drive to the Kenmore Square Exit.
  3. At the first set of lights, turn right onto Beacon Street.
  4. Bear right at the far end of Kenmore Square onto Commonwealth Avenue.
  5. Continue on Commonwealth Avenue to the College of Fine Arts (approximately 1 mile).

From the South

  1. Take I-93 Route 3 (Southeast Expressway) North to Boston.  Exit onto Storrow Drive.
  2. Continue on Storrow Drive to the Boston University Exit.
  3. At the end of the street turn right onto Commonwealth Avenue.
  4. Continue past the BU Bridge on Commonwealth Avenue to the College of Fine Arts

From the West

  1. Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) East. Take Exit 18 on the left (Brighton/Cambridge).
  2. Follow Signs to Cambridge. At the second set of lights, turn right.
  3. Continue on Storrow Drive to the Boston University Exit.
  4. At the end of the street turn right onto Commonwealth Avenue.
  5. Continue past the BU Bridge on Commonwealth Avenue to the College of Fine Arts

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)

Using the MBTA is a handy alternative to driving and parking. With Green Line stops conveniently located right at our doorstep, the "T" is a transportation option to consider when traveling to and from the Arena.

MBTA Bus

  • Take any of the following bus routes to Kenmore Square: 8, 57, 60, 65, 8A (Schedule)
  • Board the Westbound "B" train,
  • Take the "B"; Train to BU West.

Subway (the "T")

Green Line

  • Lechmere, Science Park, North Station, or Haymarket, take any Green Line train to Government Center. Transfer to the Westbound "B" train.
  • The "C" (Cleveland Circle) or "D" (Riverside) train, take any train inbound to Kenmore Square. Transfer to the outbound platform and board the "B" train.
  • The "E" (Heath Street) train, take any train inbound to Copley station. Transfer to the outbound platform and board the "B" train.
  • Take the "B" train to BU West.

Red Line

  • Take the Red Line to Park Street,
  • Once at Park Street transfer to the Westbound Green Line "B" train,
  • Take the "B" train to BU West.

Blue Line

  • Take the Blue Line train to Government Center,
  • Once at Government Center transfer to the Westbound "B" train,
  • Take the "B" train to BU West.

Orange Line

  • Take the Orange Line train to Downtown Crossing,
  • Once at Government Center follow the underground concourse to the Park Street station on the Green Line,
  • Board the Westbound "B" train,
  • Take the "B" train to BU West.
