Intensive Community Program Community
The excitement and pride of ICP extends beyond just the students. ICP is a large caring community. It is made up of teachers who teach and support the students. Experienced students support newer students. Parents support their children, each other and staff. Each and every musician, parent and teacher is valued and an important member who contributes to the success of the orchestra.

ICP aims to serve students from populations historically underrepresented in the BYSO and in the classical music field in general. This encompasses African-American/Black and Latino students as well as children from low-income communities in Boston. In ICP approximately 71% are African American/Black, 17% are Latino, 8% are Asian, and 4% are Caucasian. In addition, the BYSO encourages students from inner-city communities in Boston to join ICP. Over 90% of ICP students live in the Boston city neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Roslindale and Hyde Park.
