Concerts

BYSO audiences experience the joy and excitement of talented young musicians as they perform sophisticated repertoire in
Boston's world renowned concert halls. The exemplary technical and artistic quality of these classical music concerts is such that the Massachusetts Cultural Council has called the BYSO “indistinguishable from an adult orchestra.” Richard Dyer of the
Boston Globe wrote about the Boston Youth Symphony's performance of Verdi's
Messa da Requiem in April 2005, “The teenage orchestra played superbly, with the thrill of discovery and the polish of thorough rehearsal.”
The Boston Youth Symphony, the BYSO's most advanced ensemble, performs at Boston's Symphony Hall, Sanders Theatre at Harvard University, Jordan Hall at New England Conservatory and the Church of the Covenant on Newbury Street. Young People's String Orchestra, Junior Repertory Orchestra and Repertory Orchestra perform at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University, Emerson Umbrella for the Performing Arts, Chenery Middle School in Belmont, Massachusetts and the St. Mark's School in Southborough, Massachusetts.
Many BYSO alumni explain that their experience on stage at Symphony Hall was the beginning of lifelong love of music. Dennis Alves, a BYSO alum, parent of a current BYSO musician, and trumpet player for the Boston Pops explains: “There are certain pieces that I play in the Boston Pops that I played in BYSO. The way I play a phrase is the way Walter (Eisenberg, our conductor) told me how to play it.”
