Congratulations to our accomplished BYSO musicians!

Following are some of the recent accolades of our talents students:

 

Kristen Adams, 12, a violinist with Young People’s String Orchestra participated in MMEA Junior District this year.

 

Christine Bourdeau, 10, a bassist with Junior Repertory Orchestra, Benjamin Ernest, 10, a violinist with Young People's String Orchestra, Christian Ernest, 14, a bassist in Repertory Orchestra, Peter Firmin, 12, a bassist with Junior Repertory Orchestra and Genevieve Lefevre, 13, a violist in Junior Repertory Orchestra and performed in the Grace Chapel Easter Sunday Orchestra.

 

Eleanor Bragg, 13, a cellist with Boston Youth Symphony has won a 2011 Morton Gould Young Composer Award from the ASCAP Foundation! This makes her a three-time winner of this prestigious award. Eleanor won this year for her composition "Introspections" a suite for violin and vibraphone.

 

Emilie Campanelli, 17, a violinist with Boston Youth Symphony won the Rivers Conservatory concerto competition and as the winner she played Sibelius violin concerto (1st movement) with the Rivers Symphony Orchestra.

 

Gregory Derecho, 13, a violinist with Young People’s String Orchestra won a trophy at the Big Apple Classic Music Festival on April 30th. The trophy was for the outstanding instrumental soloist. He played a violin solo with his middle school orchestra, competing with other school music orchestras from around the country.

 

Emily Faris, 16, a cellist with Repertory Orchestra was the winner of the Emil Kornsand String Scholarship from the 2011 Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra (CCSO) Scholarship awards. She will be playing with the Cape Symphony this year.

 

Madison Freed, 15, a clarinetist with Boston Youth Symphony is this year’s winner of the orchestral scholarship from the 2011 Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra Scholarship awards.

 

Zlatomir Fung, 11, a cellist with Boston Youth Symphony won the NEC Preparatory School Concerto Competition for Division A and performed the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto in A minor on June 4th 2011 with the Youth Repertory Orchestra. He also received honorable mention in the 2011 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers competition for his piano quintet piece "Stuff I Want Now." Zlatomir Fung won 2nd place in the Arlington Philharmonic Competition and first place in the Music Worcester Competition: the Music Guild Award. Zlatimir also won the Walden Chamber Players Young Artist 2011 Competition also.

 

Alex Kinmonth, 17, an oboist with Boston Youth Symphony, David Olson, 16, a cellist with Boston Youth Symphony, Brandon Smith, 17, a bassist with Boston Youth Symphony and Thomas Veitch, 17, a horn player with Boston Youth Symphony participated in the All Eastern Music Festival in Baltimore, Maryland in April. It is held every other year and students from Maine to Washington DC are invited.

 

Parker Sheil, 15, an oboist and pianist with Repertory Orchestra was a Finalist in the 2011 BSO Concerto Competition and she won Third Prize! She auditioned with the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2, 1st movement.

 

Ingrid Yen, 17, a violinist with Boston Youth Symphony and her Tropical Trio fellow musicians won Junior Division Third Place at Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in May 2011.
