Joel Bard
Conductor, Repertory Orchestra and Repertory Chamber Orchestra
Joel Bard is in his twenty-first season as Conductor of the BYSO's Repertory Orchestra. Dr. Bard received his Master of Music in conducting from the Juilliard School, where he studied under Jorge Mester. He has also studied conducting with Charles Bruck, Otto Werner Mueller, Roger Nierenberg and Sixten Ehrling and worked in master classes with Leonard Bernstein and Herbert Blomstedt. Dr. Bard received his B.M. from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied oboe under John Mack, former principal oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra. Also active as a biochemist, he received his Ph.D. from Harvard University and is currently a research scientist at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
