1977 Wayne Branco, Trombone
Stephen Burns, Trumpet Chicago, Illinois Having lived in Wellesley, New York, and Paris, and Bloomington, Indiana, where I taught at Indiana University, I came to Chicago as Artist in Residence with Performing Arts Chicago. Now I am the Artistic Director for the Fulcrum Point New Music Project whose mission is to present multi-disciplinary concerts and outreach programs which explore new art music and its global cultural connections and relevance.
Ed Chansky, Trombone Westport, Connecticut I live in Westport, Connecticut, where I practice law by day and play trombone at night -- with one opera company, two orchestras, a brass quartet, a rock band, the local dinner-theater pit band, and whatever else the phone rings for. I recently spoke with Hal Janks, the GBYSO Wind Ensemble in 1975, who is bass-trombonist at the Metropolitan Opera. I met Hal through GBYSO, took lessons from him, and still have the Bach 42-B he helped me buy in 1976.
Lisa (Ford) Hirayama, Flute After high school/GBYSO, I attended Oberlin College, where I continued to study flute, but did not pursue a music major. Instead I studied Japanese/East Asian Studies and Sociology, and then went to graduate school for a masters in Counseling. I am married, have two sons (Kai is 15 and Kian is 7), and have lived in Seattle for 20 years now, working as an International Student Advisor at a local community college. I still play the flute for fun (and occasionally for money!), and relive my youth symphony memories through my son Kai, who plays clarinet with the Seattle Youth Symphony.
